Trophy Red Drum Fishing

Light tackle fishing for bull reds up to 50″+. Full day and long-half day trips offered.

Trophy Red Drum Fishing

North Carolina is home to some of the biggest redfish on the planet. Throughout the year, anglers haul in keeper-class fish reaching 27 inches and beyond, with the trophy season running from late September through early November where, during this window, the action heats up—and monster redfish pushing 50 inches aren’t just a dream, they’re a regular reality, as are the occasional tarpon! We’ll even jig up some gray trout (weakfish) while we wait for the giants to bite.

SeaRiously Charters runs premier trips out of Southport, NC, targeting the legendary waters of the Cape Fear River and the surrounding ocean off Bald Head Island, Oak Island, and Little River. Whether you’re fishing light tackle with live bait or soaking cut bait, our trophy redfish charters are built to deliver the fight of a lifetime and memories that stick long after the last cast.

  • Full Day (8 hours): $900 / 2 anglers
  • We provide all the necessary fishing tackle
  • Long Half Day (5 hours): $600 / 2 anglers
  • No licenses needed, we've got you covered
  • Third angler, $100 / trip
  • Free parking & memories to last a lifetime!

We strongly recommend full-day excursions for trophy redfish (and that occassional tarpon) to maximize your chances of success. While 5-hour charters can be fun, they often limit opportunities when targeting true trophy fish—remember, we’re trophy hunting here! Availability is limited, so be sure to book early to secure your prime-time dates!

What's Included

We provide all the high-quality fishing tackle, lures, and hand-tied rigs needed for your trip. Our gear is carefully selected to ensure top performance on the water. When fishing with SeaRiously, you’ll be outfitted with St. Croix and Diawa spinning/casting rods, and Shimano and Penn spinning reels. What we fish with personally, is what you fish with when we charter.

If you prefer to bring your own tackle, you’re more than welcome—just let us know in advance so we can prepare and adjust accordingly, as well as make recommendations.

A cooler stocked with ice and bottled water will be provided. You’re also welcome to bring a small cooler with any additional drinks, snacks, or lunch items you’d like for the day.

And, of course, we’ve got you covered with fishing licenses, safety equipment and life jackets, and all the basic stuff we’re required to carry anyway.

Ready for more adventure?

Why limit yourself to just one trip? Or, maybe this one doesn’t sound like your jam. Here are some other adventures that might better float your boat.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a fishing license?

SeaRiously holds USCG, NCDMF, and NC Wildlife licenses and insurance. You DO NOT need to acquire a North Carolina saltwater fishing license as we maintain a blanket license aboard our vessel.

What if the weather is bad?

SeaRiously is dedicated to offering you the best fishing experience possible. If the weather conditions are deemed unsafe or not conducive to offering a good opportunity to catch fish, the Captain will cancel the trip. If the fishing conditions are neither unsafe or unfishable but could potentially cause problems for the party, the Captain will thoroughly explain the circumstances and leave it up to the party to decide if they would feel comfortable in the conditions.

What if the trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

If the trip is cancelled due to bad weather, you will be given an opportunity to reschedule the trip for an available date or you will be given a 100% refund.

What can I do to avoid sea sickness?

There is no cure-all for sea sickness. Some are naturally more prone than others. I suggest you take a Dramamine motion sickness pill with dinner the evening prior to your fishing trip and then 1/2 of a pill with a light breakfast on the morning of your trip. Taking more pills WILL NOT be any more effective and will cause you to be very drowsy and lethargic

What happens if I get sea sick?

Despite how you may feel, it is not the end of the world. The best thing you can do is to stay in the fresh air. If you feel like you will vomit, it is best to go ahead as you will feel dramatically better afterwards. If you do not wish to endure the sea sickness, you can instruct the Captain to take you back at any time. This is your trip and you make the call. Your crew is there for your pleasure and comfort.

What should I bring?

All the equipment needed for your trip is provided: boat, lifejackets, tackle, bait and license. You will need to bring sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, non-skid shoes, lunch or dinner, and a jacket or rain gear. Bottled water, ice, and a cooler will be provided on the boat. Feel free to bring any additional beverages you desire for the day.

I've never been ocean fishing before. What trip should I take?

That all depends on your level of comfort with the ocean. Your decision on which trip to take should be based on your comfort level on the ocean, specific species you desire, amount of time you are willing to commit and amount of money you are willing to commit. The time and money parts are self-explanatory. The species you desire are dependent upon season. You will want to decide how important it is to catch fish to take home to eat versus simply catching fish. Finally, your comfort level is totally up to you. For instance, our 2-hour Kid’s Trip and 1/2 day near shore trip you’ll stay within sight of land. Inshore trips will be within a stones-throw of land. If you have concerns over whether or not your body will handle being on the ocean, choose a shorter trip. This way if find out you just aren’t cut out for fishing further out in the ocean, you can get home quick. Though, we never go that far. That’s just not our style, or specialty. And we’re here to work with you to meet your needs and desires, let alone your comfort-level. This is about making being on the water an enjoyable experience, especially for families. It’s about having fun, not about being stressed—or even loading the freezer with fish.

Do you take children?

Yes.* Children are welcome on board, and we even have a kids-focused trip to help them get acclimated to being on the water and around a boat. It is your discretion as to whether you think a child is suitable for the environment, but as a dad himself, the Captain places extra emphasis on making his trips family-friendly and family-centered. This is about making memories and having fun. In North Carolina, it is mandatory for anyone under the age of 13 to wear a suitable life vest while aboard a moving recreational vessel.

* There are no age restrictions for inshore fishing trips or sightseeing tours. Must be at least 5 years old for nearshore trips. Semi-offshore trip available to those age 10 or older.

Can we let the fish go after we catch them?

Absolutely! We encourage catch and release. If you do not intend to eat the fish it will be released unharmed to bite another day.

Who does the catch belong to?

Whatever you catch on your fishing trip belongs to you. We encourage catch and release, but it is certainly your decision.

Who cleans the fish?

If you are interested in keeping fish to eat, SeaRiously will gladly clean your catch within reasonable limits. If you choose to load the freezer for the next millennium, we recommend Haag & Sons Seafood on Oak Island who can clean your fish for a nominal fee, and you can pick up some extra goodies and sides while you are there!
